Really enjoyed Aluko’s insights last night on commentary 08:20 - Oct 5 with 2630 viewsChrisd

Thought he got across his points well and gave clear explanations as to what the expectations are now at the club, the processes involved and demands on the players that KM has instilled on the squad. Refreshing to listen to.

Sounds some really good co-commentary

Anymore insight on the expectations set by the club?

He mentioned that everything is in place behind the scenes, there’s no excuse for the players (Don’t quote me word for word), but a far cry from our past ownership. Felt he really gave a good analysis of our players and the reason for the way we were playing at different times. Although, he did questioning why we kept persisting trying to play that sliding ball through the middle of the park about 10-15 yards out from Cambridge’s penalty box, as it kept being blocked.

He was excellent. I hope he can stay on as a coach with us when he's done playing.

I was at the game but had heard from friends that Aluko was good. I find it quite interesting how much extra people like him and Westlake tell the viewer about how we're playing.

The contrast to Mick Mills is clear, he's good on the big picture stuff and his affection for the club is clear but it does sound like the gaem has moved on too far for him when it comes to the detail of how we're playing.

Obviously Mathie is better than all of them.....

Keogh and Aluko management team, you heard it here first.

Keogh is the nuts apparently. A mate of mine plays for Blackpool and I was with him on Sunday. Wasn’t at all impressed with Norwich by the way, said they’re the most sh-t house side they’ve played and thinks all isn’t well there. Dean Smith was getting some abuse off a group of 14 year old Blackpool fans at the end of the game, nothing out of the ordinary and apparently he stopped, walked towards them laughing sarcastically and basically goading them. Even a couple of the Norwich coaches etc were like ‘that’s weird’. Smith got called a ‘strange little man’ by a Blackpool player.

But on Keogh he reckons they lost arguably their best play but undoubtedly their best influence. Top top bloke and like glue in the dressing room, all the other lads would look to him for guidance etc. they really miss him and my mate reckons he’s just made for a step into coaching which was part of the appeal at Town as well as geography.

I could be wrong about Keogh, but I get the impression he's one of those old pros that will be more than happy to bide his time and accept his place on the bench as he can see those in front deserve to start. However, when he gets that opportunity to play, he's going to prove difficult to shift as he'll prove solid and reliable. We're so lucky to have someone with his experience and quality to come on.

Tenuous link, Edmundson I thought played very well last night.

There were a few moments of real insight into McKenna which was great to hear.

Loved Aluko's passion and genuine desire to see his team mates do well, even those who play in the same position.

Truly impaired.

Would agree with that. As it stands at the moment he's unlikely to get that chance unless it's in the stuffed crust trophy, but that's just testament to how well Woolfy is playing. It's an either / or between those 2 in the middle of the 3 really, and you couldn't justify dropping Wolf. As you say if he picks up a knock or suspension I would back Keogh to come in and do well. My mate raves about him, real Rolls Royce but he's probably happy enough now to influence the side on the training pitch and soak up as much from KM and his staff as possible. He must have half an eye on his transition into coaching / management now which is fair enough.

Aluko was good, and gave some good insights. I do wonder about the wisdom of having a current player doing the comments. If a match is not going well I imagine that they would not be critical. Hopefully ,if we continue to play well, that wouldn’t be an issue. I was able to watch last night, so the actual commentary was not so relevant, but for the audio only experience , while having improved on the first couple of games, it is still a way short of the BBC.

You wonder how much coaching of Wolfie and the Fridge Keogh** is doing?

Can we call him *the nutter"?

Westlake has that passion for the club too. He's be far and away my favourite.

A current player is good because they say what is going on without linking it to previous players, teams, managers and even decades.

I liked Brenner et al, but the tendency of those commentaries to frame stuff as a continuation of previous stuff was getting tiring e.g. our record in cup competitions, late heartbreak etc.

Gamechanger, McKenna and the current players have zero connection to the ITFC past and are much better looked at on their own merits and their own journey towards a promotion team. Certainly more interesting and relevant for those of us who have already lived through that past.

Your last sentence - that's probably why he makes such a difference when he's in the team. Sounds like he sees things other maybe don;t and can therefore change and adapt more on the pitch. had he have been playing I presume he'd have had a word and they would have mixed it up a bit more.

100%. There was a part where Jackson went down with an injury late on. You could tell Aluko was genuinely super concerned and gutted for him as a person.

He gave some nice anecdotes like being the player who stands up against Morsy in training etc. He felt the yellow card for us at the end was to help protect Walton and his clean sheet.

Sounds like they're a group of people who care about each other and not just a random team of strangers like half of last season.

I also enjoyed that he has the same quirk that I and many others have of saying the players name when you want them to do something. Say there was a dangerous looking through ball and Edmundson needs to come across and intercept then he'd just say, "George".
I don't know why we do it, but I was pleased to hear a professional doing the same pointless thing.
