Next six games are going to huge for Town 09:46 - Dec 11 with 2843 views | xrayspecs | A really tough set of fixtures with both Wycombe and Oxford recovering from poor starts, Lincoln unbeaten at home and two of our closest rivals Wycombe A Oxford H Portsmouth A Lincoln A Plymouth H Oxford A 10 points or more would be an excellent return from these games. Might be stating the obvious but you know how some fans are, it's 18 or not good enough. Lincoln unbeaten but they have 8 draws. Hopefully we can find a bit of quality and put them to the sword. It would be great if Plymouth really fell away in the next 4 so it feels like less of a 'top of the table clash' for them. They are a bit like Portsmouth. Once they took their first (home) loss it was always going to be interesting to see if they could bounce back and continue their form. Not sure why people keep saying Portsmouth are big rivals. They are battling for 6th. Of course the game will be hard but they are not a team we should be worrying about or considering our closest rivals.

Of all our players, imo, he is one of the hardest to replace, for everything he brings to the team... Be interesting to see how Sheff W get on without Bannan. If he's out for a few games.. Way I see it, if we can get through January, and still be averaging 2pts per game over the season. Then we are in good shape to kick on , with players returning and the possibility of one or two incomings in the window. There's no need to panic, if we have the odd stutter over the next few weeks.... For all our odd wobbles, and a few fan meltdowns, we've still only lost twice in the league all season, at , almost halfway stage.(which includes a very weird home defeat to Lincoln) If we can replicate that or get close to it, in the 2nd half of the season. Then we'll be fine for top 2 imo. Mentioned on another thread, KM has got a great knack of keeping us "flying straight". Yesterday was a good example of us grinding out a really important result. Just when things were starting to look a bit dicey, in terms of form. His standards are very high. Probably higher than most of ours, in terms of what he'll expect from these up coming matches.... I'd definitely take 10 pts from those fixtures. 8 or 9 won't be a disaster. Hate to be the one that bemoans refs and "luck". But if things even themselves out over the season. Then, by rights, we should have a few tight ones go our way in the second half of the season. If we carry on playing to the same standards.

I'd take 12 points from these. Draw the aways win the homes and beat pompy away. Reinforce in Jan and boom. Promotion run thereafter.

Wycombe in theory should be a team we really struggle against as they're all (almost exclusively) about lumping the ball in the box but we seem to do ok whenever we play them, whilst with Oxford we just need to not get to a point where they can do their time wasting on steroids routine they always do. Portsmouth are a step off the teams in the top 6 imo but interestingly are still unbeaten at home and Cowley will be winding them up for revenge, Plymouth's away form decidedly average compared to their home form and I'd back us to reverse the result from their place and Lincoln we know are very awkward but a case of taking chances this time around. 12 points would be good as it keeps us going at 2 a game and anything more than that is top tier stuff. We'll probably draw a couple and lose one of them just because it's the way things are, but if we're still roughly where we are now come the Plymouth match then a win in that one would really be a shot in the arm.

We're more likely to win the away and draw the home games

I've got this feeling our home form is about to change. Yesterday we didn't do our usual tidy football and tried a variable amount of different types of passing. Possibly ky because of the inclusion of Aluko. But I have this feeling we re going to see a different town at home than what we've had so far this season.

The closest of the rest of those is 16 points behind us - that is them winning 5 and drawing one of their matches while we lose 3 for them just to match us. On their current 10-match form, that would take them close to 100 matches to do even if our form fell off massively. They are set up so negatively they have drawn 6 of their last 10. Or if you mean Wycombe (who are on the same points as Pompey), their form is marginally better but they have the same gap without the games in hand so they would need 5 wins and a draw while we lose 6. Do those fixtures really look any tougher than: Derby H (7th) ... Wycombe (9th) Port Vale A (11th) ... Oxford (16th) Charlton A (18th) ... Portsmouth (8th) Cheltenham H (17th) ... Lincoln (14th) Exeter A (13th) ... Plymouth (2nd) Fleetwood H (15th) ... Oxford (16th) Aside from Plymouth, there is not a great deal of difference. We took 12 points without losing a match and not even going behind in any of them and could easily have had 18 out of 18 from that set even while missing several players. It is a tough set of fixtures in that there are no easy matches at this level but now we really seem to have got to grips with that reality, we should also have no fear of anyone.

I was referring to Portsmouth who would be 7 behind us if they win their games in hand. They also beat us in the PJ quite comfortably against a decent Town side. Oxford and Wycombe are improving and moving up the table after a slow start. I would add that we have more injuries now than that sequence you reference, it was good to see Sone back but we may have now lost JD. All our games are winnable, I do see this "on paper" as being a difficult run over the next few weeks.

If Portsmouth win their three games in hand. You're being massively generous. They are averaging 1.2 points per game in last 6.

Yes, if they win them. Whether they are a promotion rival or not, it is not going to be an easy game for us, is it? As per the OP, the next five games are not easy.

Didn't see the edit. No, it won't be easy, especially a night game under the lights.

I think all six are difficult. All winnable, but these are all teams who can take points from us.
