The only thing that I can say is he needs to get real . There is no way without additional players, mainly strikers, will there be an easy return to the championship! It is not uncommon for slides down the leagues to continue once started.

Whilst I agree we need strikers, as far as I can see the only relegated team to finish properly in the bottom half over the past 4 years or so is Blackpool - who were a special case. Other then them the AVERAGE placing was 5th.

I think the most realistic measure is that precisely half of those sides going down finished in the top 6 the following year. I think that is a fair reflection of our chances.

Without off-field circumstances (Portsmouth, Blackpool), the slide tends to be Prem -> Champ -> L1, not Champ -> L1 -> L2. Certainly recently.

Of the 23 teams relegated from the Championship between 2007-08 and 2016-17 (5 teams were relegated more than once, Portsmouth and Blackpool also excluded), 3 (13%) played in the Prem this season, 10 (43.5%) played in the Champ, 7 (30.5%) played in L1 and just 3 (13%) in L2. Four of those in L1 had played one or more seasons in L2 since relegation from the Champ.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

If that's really him it doesn't say a lot for the lad's attitude.

Thinking we're just going to turn up in L1 and win every game is not going to get us very far. We won't be successful by default in League One, we will have to work for it and anyone who thinks otherwise may get a reality check.

The original tweet said that if we keep the team together and play well with the right additions we can win matches in L1.

'His' tweet said that if we keep the team together and have right additions we will win every single game.

The second tweet implies that playing well is not required because we will win every game regardless.

That kind of arrogance is highly dangerous as if we think we will go down and storm the league because we're far too good for it so we don't need to try too hard, then we will be our own worst enemy.

I haven’t bothered reading the twitter gumpf but I would wager Nolan got some stick from a few village idiots for being ‘negative’ for originally saying that we would win (some) games......so this subsequent tweet is a correction in response to that nonsense.

Am I right?

Perhaps you ought to read his tweet again, because the word 'could' is not present in it, it looks like he is suggesting that what he said to the club site was toned down from what he really thought, either by himself or by the club themselves.

At the end of the day there is a belief from some around here and also in the playing staff it seems that we are too good for League One and we will walk the division without needing to play particularly well. That arrogance will not help us next year.

Nothing in football comes for free, you have to earn it. We've seen clubs many times before go down and think they're too good and end up becoming their own worst enemy. League One is more physical than the Championship and if players are not up for a fight as they think it's easy then they're going to be in for a shock.

At the end of the day the best thing the players can do is let their football do the talking. Coming out saying how good they are for a team that can barely score a goal and the worst Town side I've ever seen is pathetic. They need to have a bit of credit in the bank which they have none at the moment before they do that.

We need to take our medicine, rebuild and start winning games again and scoring goals, maybe then we can start going on about how good we are.

He's playing to the support and why wouldn't he? They need to build us up for the new season and get us excited about it. If he were to say "yeah with the 60% wage cut and our tiny transfer budget we'll be lucky to meet mid-table next season" then thats not going to get us very pumped up about anything. The only risk the club runs overall (not specific to Nolan's comments) is a vast majority of the support are expecting a successful and exciting season, now while we should aspire to that the pitfall is if we don't set the league alight immediately then a number of the support will start to whinge, turn on the manager and by default our owner (who definitely deserves the grief might I add!) and the whole thing will sour quickly.

Nolan is right though, if we trim the fat and bring in just 2 players along the lines of Judge in terms of age and Championship experience we should be VERY competitive in the League One with the core of our side. If we do not do that we're making it hard for ourselves. A decent striker to play alongside Sears and a experienced centre half to cool the backline and add a level head and some leadership into the mix and we'll do well. If we offload and expecting players from the U23's to solely fill the void we'll end up making a job of it. The ball is in Evans court as ever.

I remember MM giving Phil a hard time once when asked a question about the fans because of all the 'keyboard warriors' online - this is exactly the kind of thing he was talking about. How anyone can read so much into a light hearted, uplifting tweet is absolutely beyond me. Next we'll be seeking an apology for him using the F word.

Although of the last 7 seasons, of all the teams relegated from the Championship, only 6 will definitely be playing in the Championship next season, plus Wolves in the PL

So would suggest your stat is heavily weighted towards those teams relegated at the end of the last decade - more recent experience suggests teams seem to struggle to re-establish themselves in the Championship

Hopefully we’ll be one of the 30% or so of teams that do bounce back

Don’t take things so seriously, Nolan’s played in L1 before, he knows better than you what it’ll really be like.
