Well worth a watch

They are not economic migrants

It is not primarily the people smugglers to blame

The latter being the line fished out by all briefed Tory MPs

Thanks for posting. That’s worth four minutes of everybody’s time.

Ipswich's deeply dangerous MP, Tom Hunt, is unfortunately one of the most gleeful propagators of those lies.

He's had the cheek to pen a column entitled 'As a society we need to get better at disagreeing with each other' in the Star this week.

Predictably, it's all Labour's fault.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Yep, Tom is a dab hand at playing the victim.

Indeed but an ageing Lord calmly and rationally presenting facts does not play to the electorate how a screamed headline in a red-top or a Priti Patel soundbite do.

Unfortunately we had some posters parroting Patel's ignorant and wilfully deceptive nonsense the other day. When presented with actual evidence to the contrary they didn't want to hear it. Such a shame, people really will just believe whatever helps to back up their own prejudices and don't have any real interest in the truth.

The thing is the issue runs deeper - people are looking at the headlines about ambulances queuing outside hospitals and being delayed to calls or the social care system at breaking point and responding "how can this country support more people?" Putting the sector under this unreasonable pressure is probably part of a wider Conservative plan but it works well with the asylum seeker argument too.

That’s the problem though isn’t it - they have no shame whatsoever. They know their audience, they aim to keep them and not bother with anyone else.
