ME's most expensive signings 10:30 - Jan 28 with 4051 views | hatch | Just as some light relief - who can tell me the top 5 most expensive signings under Marcus Evans? I was curious at 2am last night so went hunting on transfermarkt to retrieve the list and it was fairly close to what I expected. Transfer fees only, not wages or paying off Chopra's hitmen.

Nsiala and Nolan for £2 Million is also painful Gio would have cost a fair wack of wages

I'm on a conference call so for ease I think this is correct but I do recall Paul Taylor being up there too. Looking back at it had flashbacks of the excitement I felt when we were chasing the likes of Norris, Priskin and Taylor and managed to secure them. Norris in particular. Sad looking back and even sadder when our current excitement is trying to sign Championship reserves. And then there the ones that got away - two key ones being Charlie Austin and Shaun Derry I think. [Post edited 28 Jan 2021 10:49]

I think it is probably close but with Martin replacing Edwards Norris - decent enough but massively overpaid because of the sell on clause. To overpay that much he needed to be a final piece in a jigsaw opposed to a steady enough player. Leadbitter - was OK but we never found a way to get the best out of him. Massively playing within himself by dropping too deep and never trying to drive us forward. Terrible waste of money Edwards - overspent on a 30+ year old pacey winger. Far too much for a player going backwards in a career but probably was the best value in this list in the end Priskin - horrific was waste especially when you consider who we had waiting to play that position. Honestly saw about 10 minutes of his debut to realise we had been done. Martin - how can anyone get a value so wrong? Turned into a decent lower level player but over 2 million was scandalous Jackson - interestingly he was enormously overpriced but despite doing nothing here at all could have gone for a profit. The price was based on potential which means he needed to be developed, we needed a ready made result for that money and haven't developed him or tried to support him at all

ME's most expensive signings on 10:50 - Jan 28 with 3074 views | tractorboy1978 | Every player we've signed for £1m+ under Evans has left for nothing. Would it surprise you if Nolan, Nsiala, Jackson ultimately end up doing the same? Perhaps not Jackson.

The most threatening thing Jackson has done since joining was on Tuesday night. I remember his Accy youtube compilation highlighting his pace running into space and I appreciate he needs the delivery from midfield but I can't recall seeing him get away from a defender in his time here.

According to TransferMarkt it's: Leadbitter £2.7m Norris £2.7m Martin £2.03m Taylor £2.03m Priskin £1.8m Selected others: McAuley £1.7m Jackson £1.62m Chopra £1.53m Huws £1.04m (The first signing over £1m for around 5 seasons) Edwards £1.35m Not sure if there are any missing there but the majority were in the early days as we know.

Not sure paid much of a fee if anythin for Huws, think we took on his contract, which was somewhat expensive in itself. JET was at least a million, looking it up and seems to have been an initial £1.1m, but probably more than that with top-ups, think it would have reached £2m eventually with appearances etc. McAuley was £1.1m as well, oddly enough.

Didn't we get a BOGOF deal on those two? I'm using 'deal' in the loosest possible terms of course.

Keane wanted to pay £4m for Chopra. Evans, for once in his lifetime, did the right thing & said no.

I was waiting for your intervention to set my prices straight! What would you say is our best and worst deal over his tenure, Phil? Plenty to choose from in the latter.

Worst - Priskin or Martin Best - tough one. Cresswell and Mings stand out for value and return as does Walters as well but Murphy, McGoldrick and Berra have to be up there for free transfers

Martin was bad as even people around the club were amazed he was given a four-year deal on very good money at the time he was signed. Still not entirely sure of the fee, although people have talked about £2m in the past. Priskin at £1.7m was a lot as well. Difficult to argue with any of those as the best, although Walters was signed pre-Evans if I remember rightly.

I wondered if Walters might have been but assumed he couldn't have been because we were really broke back then. Chambers and Skuse should also be up there for best signings [Post edited 28 Jan 2021 11:55]
