I wonder if next season we might be able to bring the pitch in slightly? esp If we still have Knudsen, his throws can be dangerous of course, but looking at his run up on the highlights there's barely any room for a proper long throwers run up...

So we should resize the pitch to accommodate a player who is regularly linked with a move away?

And on the basis that we finally got a goal from one of his "dangerous" throws?

Seems a bit silly

Not really to accommodate a player no, but if Knudsen or someone else, the long throw can be very beneficial but out pitch doesn't really provide the space to do so, I've seen Knudsen throw them with power as well as lengh, but at PR just more of a looped effort just to try and get them in the box due to lack of space

Well, it's an important tactic if PH is going to keep him taking long throws from the right as well.

But maybe he just needs to learn a curving run-up?

What about some sort of ramp or slide?

He could practice to his heart's content, the key would be getting his timing right, getting ready to sling as he hits the bottom. I don't want anyone being silly about this, such as, suggesting it should start from the upper stand, lets be sensible and bear in mind H&S.

You would of course need extra ball boys to run the slide around the ground.

That's a perfectly valid suggestion.

On the other side of the coin, Hurst favours pacy wingers and may prefer to give them space to pull defenders out of position.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that at Shrewsbury he increased the pitch size as much as possible so I can't see him wanting to reduce it here.

About 20 years ago I remember David Johnson using one of the little gates in the advertising boards to increase his run up. Think it was at Tranmere, led to a goal, their lot not happy!

I think I remember that actually, the then churchman stand end, right in front of the away fans.

I'd never really thought about how small the sidelines are, I think because the highlights showed a few of his throws it just made me think about them

The throw made the keeper come off his line into no mans land twice.

Didn't Stoke have gaps in the advertising hoardings so Delap could get a run up?

It is weird how it always looks smaller from the upper stands.

Well it looks like a duck, it sounds like a duck. Nope, dunno what it is.

A problem I can foresee would be that all of Bart's goal kicks would go out and not just a few of them!

Some opponents also used to bring the ad hoardings closer to the pitch when playing against Stoke to prevent that very thing.
