Crowds @ Euros/Super Bowl/Wrestlemania/Portman Road 16:32 - Jan 22 with 2505 views | J2BLUE | The NFL have announced that 22,000 fans will be allowed into Raymond James Stadium for the Super Bowl. One third capacity at the standard 66,000 non expanded capacity. 7500 will be vaccinated health care workers which could be a brilliant idea if they are spaced out between the non vaccinated fans. I know there's no data on whether they can still transmit the virus but it's worth a go if they're protected. Apparently UEFA have three options. Tournament behind closed doors, 20-30% and 50-100% so will probably be watching with interest. WWE are said to be watching how things go with plans for 25,000 at Wrestlemania (again one third capacity as the stadium can hold 75,000 for 'special events') Could we see something like this next season? 10,000 at PR with a proportion being set aside for the vaccinated?

Crowds @ Euros/Super Bowl/Wrestlemania/Portman Road on 19:08 - Jan 22 by SuffolkPOSH | The Superbowl & Wrestlemania are bot being held in Florida, a state who's senators basically opened up everything at the earliest opportunity after their first lockdown. They were Trumps go to state to have his mass campaign gatherings as the Florida senators shared Trumps belief that the virus was nothing to worry about and that all businesses should operate as normal and wearing masks was not important. Therefore I wouldn't look at Florida as the norm but rather as the exception. UEFA might keep an eye on the outcome of these events but you only need to look at Sturgis motorcycle rally last summer and the various spikes across the country after that event. I suspect the Euro's will be played in one country with no away fans attending and maybe not even any home fans attending. The question is which country would want to host the event, with the possibility of hosting it with no crowds or risking a huge rise in their R rate. Other option are that 2021 is cancelled or alternatively they could hold it on zoom. |
Daytona Florida bikefest. Just been given the green light, to be held in March and that normally attracts quarter of a million bikers from all over the states

The Sturgis event was in Aug & had a reported 462k attend. I recall after the event Dr Fauci & Dr John Campbell commenting on how it created a spike in the R number across America. If the Daytona one has a similar attendance, with the new variants things could be even worse.

All in one place and behind closed doors like last seasons champions league feels the most likely - would have thought the UK would be a leading contender but then maybe not with our current number of cases and deaths! Although the hopeful speed of our vaccine roll out might help. Looking at cases across Europe there isn’t really a country which has both the infrastructure and a low case rate right now who stands out as a lead candidate to host it. Perhaps Germany? Less than 50% an many cases as us over the last fortnight and as many decent stadia as us? Not sure if even want it in the UK as it would be typical for it to all be here the one time no fans are allowed into games!

Agreed. Still unsure whether to return my tickets and get refund now (have until Tuesday lunchtime to do so) or hold on to them. UEFA decided to change and add Force Majeure including pandemics into their terms and conditions which makes you wonder if you do not claim your refund now and they move the games elsewhere (ie: another country and you cannot attend) they will use this to try and get out of issuing refunds. They have now issued another statement saying if a game is moved more than 50km from the original venue and you cannot attend they will refund the money but no mention of if the Force Majeure regarding pandemics being removed from their terms and conditions. I just don't trust the barstewards.
