What’s the worst traffic jam you’ve ever been stuck in? 12:39 - Dec 8 with 3160 viewsSuperblue95

Or how has a traffic jam inconvenienced you the most?

I’ve been sitting in a traffic jam for about an hour now and moved about a mile in that time, meaning I’m going to miss the exam I have this afternoon.

I’m bored and pretty annoyed but am sure there must be people on here with proper horror stories about missing flights, job interviews, big events, etc, etc after spending hours sat in traffic.

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

On a bus in the middle of the Andes mountains, because of a local protest where they blocked the road with boulders. It started in the middle of the night and lasted around 14 hours. It was so cold that icicles formed on the inside of the bus. Without doubt the coldest I have ever been.

A14 eastbound?

Just came the other way. Fire engines, ambulances and police there and traffic clearly not going anywhere anytime soon.

Three and a half hours on M25 between J28 & J27. Four of us were heading to a family funeral of a well-known GP who died young. The large church was packed and they waited 45 minutes after it was due to start for us to arrive as we were close family. Even when we got there they had to wait another 5 minutes after we all had to use the one toilet in the church!
We were originally very early (to meet with family beforehand) and near to the accident that closed the motorway. There was nothing that we could do but sit there and advise others travelling later to take a different route to avoid the traffic.
That was a really stressful journey.

1 January 1990. M6 Birmingham. On way back from the 5-0 drubbing at Port Vale. The hangover game.

The highly amusing thing was, sitting on the back seat of the coach at one point, I idly looked out the back to see how far the queue went back, and found myself looking at Trevor Kirton. By a complete fluke, the team bus was right behind us.

This caused bedlam as we merrily chanted our undying support for the team and enthusiastically waved. Remember, we had just lost 5-0. There was a curtain on the team coach behind the driver which was closed. Poor old Trev sheepishly waved back at us, and at one point, one of the players, (my memory says Zondervan) poked their head through the curtain for one reason or another, saw us, and quickly darted back behind the curtain.

Probably then told everyone else to hide before we pushed the team bus off the Spaghetti Junction or something in rage

Worst for me was years ago when I sat in the Dartford tunnel for about 4 1/2 hours, my company car was in for a service so was in one from the dealers which meant I had no music with me, no food, no drink and absolutely nothing to do to kill the time. This was in the days before smartphones and bluetooth, not even the radio worked.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

I took a mate and his two young kids to Heathrow early one morning.

His sister lives in the States and they hadn't seen their aunt for ages so the sister kindly bought and posted them all tickets for the flight. Fantastic stuff.

We left my driveway at 5AM on the dot for a 10:30 check-in.

Everything you can think of and more happened on the way down there and we finally got there with 5 minutes to spare for check-in.

The kids were crying at one point and all sorts. I felt terrible and it was an absolute murder of a journey; accident on the M11 and a ridiculous detour across country which was yet to be sign posted with a snake of traffic for miles with apparently an idiot at the front who wouldn't let anyone past.

Took us hours to get down to the M25 where we then encountered a fecking burst waterpipe and one lane traffic.

Horrible horrible time of it.

Ouch I feel that, had similar which I will confess was largely of my own doing. Was flying to Cuba and was in the car with the then wife, making stately progress to Heathrow with time to check in, get some grub and a cheeky beer before boarding.

Not far from Heathrow she happened to mention we were flying from Gatwick, which I should have known to be fair, and that resulted in a frantic trip there including the last 2 or 3 miles with a flat rear tyre and her bending my ear.

Was not the chilled start to a holiday I anticipated.

"Not far from Heathrow she happened to mention we were flying from Gatwick"

That's pretty much made my evening!
