What makes me think that it isn't Shefki or another inexperienced manager is that during the interview it soon became apparent that we would be looking at free transfers and loans again. To exploit the latter I'd have thought that we would need someone with plenty of experience in the game with plenty of contacts.

It's just a case of the odds shuffling around. Bookies have caught wind that the Cowley's are set to sign new long-term deals so his odds have finally drifted and Gerrard has drifted significantly due since the Rangers speculation. They probably just think Shefki is next in line once those guys are taken out of the equation.
