I remember him scoring a header on his debut at Birmingham only for it to get ruled out wrongly I think for offside - was great value and underrated for me

His performance at Watford away in the 95/96 season was brilliant - we were 2-0 down he scored 1 made 2 for Mathie to win us the game - did well at RB and RWB before injuries started to play part

Loved them both at Town.

For the second half of the 97-98 season Petta was as good a player as anyone I've seen at Town since the early 80s side. And he's right, his side would beat the play off winners. Dyer and Taricco make the difference.

When he went charging up the field somebody always shouted ‘shut the gate!’ Good thing there was a stand in the way or he’d have wound up in Diss or Chelmsford depend on on which which way we were playing. Throw ins, crossing the ball, much of the game was lost on him, but boy could he run and he had a howitzer of a shot on him. Entertainment always beckoned when he was on the team sheet.

I recall a lovely bit of commentary from Jimmy Greaves on Gus. Something like "He's signed for Ipswich from a team called TOP Oss, well I think he's top of the pops".

Also recall TWTD having an advert for someone to collect the ball from the river Thames after he signed for Fulham.

That was the best game I saw Gus play for Town, but only after Burley swapped his & Stockwell's positions at half time, which a few of us were calling for from the start.
