Ashton - we are lucky to have him 21:19 - Sep 1 with 2770 views | ringwoodblue | No doubt it’s been another busy day for Ashton but as usual, he has conducted all the business very competently, professionally and in the best interests of the club. A very clever and astute man who has proven to be a major asset to the club.

The manager has been backed. We cannot ask for any more than that. Everything is set up for success now. If that doesn't come it won't be down to Ashton.

Totally agree, and said as much when i said this year there were no excuses for non promotion. My reply was solely based on how MA was seen at BC, he was the hero, it only changed when the success didn't follow.

When they see your post, and you know they search the internet for MA posts at least weekly, they will come here, and you will be held accountable!

Ashton - we are lucky to have him on 06:26 - Sep 2 with 2028 views | textbackup | He’s exactly what, I’m sure, we all hoped for for years when saying we need a footballing CEO at this club. Would have been funny to see him here working under ME, he’d have hit him with a shovel I reckon… No doubt he made mistakes at Bristol City, and there will be mistakes made here, but currently he’s ticking so many boxes. Very little in the way of wasted signings, possibly Harper the only negative (but if Cook wanted him, then that’s not really on MA)

Ashton - we are lucky to have him on 07:01 - Sep 2 with 1917 views | Vic | I agree, but with one exception. At the end of the day his work is done in the best interests of his employees, who are the Yanks. Currently he’s doing his job very well, but let’s not kid ourselves that it’s out of love for our club. We happen to currently be the beneficiaries of a man doing his job well. Long may it continue

I think there is a bigger story at Bristol City. Google "Hargreaves Landsdown Woodford legal action". Possible Ashton was working on a project within given parameters but an owner who had been happy to throw money around, following Hargreaves Landsdown's FTSE floatation, suddenly had to take a more conservative approach as a potential multi-million pounds lawsuit is launched against the company he still owns a sizeable stake in. Would explain Ashton jumping ship for a club owned by a pension fund: ironically Gamechanger are less likely to change the rules Ashton has to play by halfway through the project. This is pure speculation on my part, putting two and two together, but it seems to me that Bristol City fans have blamed Ashton for the change of approach, understandably not wanting to turn on the benefactor and lifelong fan at the top. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think that at this club MA is a piece within a defined structure. That was obvious from Steed’s comments when he was over here and Ashton’s comments about daily calls. Within that, MA has licence to run the club as he sees fit. That means his rear end is on the line if various departments don’t deliver, knowing Americans he will be gone. That includes if McKenna fails as he appointed him. With Bristol City, the set up appears to have been different. It’s interesting that their supporters blame MA for everything yet Lansdown, who has sunk a lot of money in, for nothing. It should be remembered that Ashton resigned to come here. If MA was the dark destroyer as painted, why didn’t Lansdown sack him? There’s plenty to be suspicious about and question Ashton over, not least how we keep losing promising young players and what we are doing about it. There is the Brentesque bullsh1t bingo speak and a certain oiliness along with dodgy cap and beard thing. However, looking at all that’s been done to date, I don’t see an awful lot to criticise yet.
Ashton - we are lucky to have him on 08:24 - Sep 2 with 1543 views | ElephantintheRoom | Ahem. Are you forgetting last year? Add to the destruction of any promotion hopes the loss of circa £10 million on Downes and some would say he’s playing catch up. This IS the third division - and I’d be tempted to wait and see how things pan out in the weeks and months ahead. Town could yet be this season’s MK Dons.

He's a bit hipster innit. The corporate speak is irritating but the yanks love all that. And he's got to tow the party line as well as be successful on the pitch. Corporate America is all about culture and data and all that jazz, and you need to talk the talk as well as walk the walk, or yer gone.

But he can only walk the walk to the extent that the owners give him the financial backing. There the people we should really thank.

He appears to be doing an all-round great job so far at ITFC but it is not unreasonable for people to have doubts about his character based upon what is known of his time not just at Bristol City but also at Watford. Some of the published stories about his time at Watford in particular don’t paint a very rosy picture. That was a long time ago however and he was green then and was likely following Simpson’s orders much of the time. Hopefully he has learnt his lessons - he certainly seems to have based upon his dealings so far.

Loss on Downes? Keen to see your workings on that one.
