W/E in Edinburgh 19:37 - Jan 25 with 3034 views | Blueorder | Mrs Order and I are making the most of our kids going on a ski trip with the school. Anyone have any good tips for restaurants and stuff to do in Edinburgh?

| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Had many a good night out in Glasgow. I was there in '91 when they were the city of culture, which really pizzed the good folk of Edinburgh off!

To be fair Edinburgh is a nice place but the locals are completely up themselves. I might have to go up there soon anyway as my mate just got blown up and has now been airlifted back to a hospital there.

W/E in Edinburgh on 20:24 - Jan 25 with 2940 views | GlasgowBlue | Rose Street and the agrass Market are both good for bars. Tiger Lilly is a nice cocktail bar/restaurant. It’s in George Street which runs parallel with Rose street.

W/E in Edinburgh on 20:40 - Jan 25 with 2926 views | clive_baker | Check out a bar called Panda & Sons. Speakeasy type place down stairs below what looks like an old school barbers shops. Really good vibe in there, great drinks and IMO fairly reasonably priced considering. The Dome is another pretty cool bar. Both on the swankier side if that floats your boat. Couple of nice pubs on the Grass market. I thoroughly enjoyed the free walking tour. They meet outside Starbucks on the royal mile and it lasted about 2 hours. Very interesting place. Could check it out online. Food wise a restaurant called STEAK is fantastic. Best steak in the city for me.

Of the two, I prefer Glasgow for the nightlife but Edinburgh has the nicer architecture.

Both are brilliant cities - we're have a week in Scotland in February and will be based near Edinburgh but are having a day in Glasgow and going to Celtic v Zenit. If you're about that day Glassers, we could have a beer or a cuppa!

To keep everyone happy take a trip to Shotts, it is bang in the middle between Glasgow and Edinburgh, has a wonderful prison and the best high street of metal shuttered shops I have ever encountered.
