The worst Ipswich players of all time…. 07:49 - Apr 16 with 12507 viewsITFC_nostalgia

Surely Leon Best makes the top 3? And if there’s been a more ironically named Town player I don’t remember them!

Bit harsh on Chris Wood as he wasn’t fit when he was here. Also both Lewis Price and
Aaron Lee-Barrett weren’t that bad.

Whilst he certainy wasn'r a top class keeper, ALB stood in for us very well. In fact in the 38 games he played for us we got more points per game than when any of the more celebrated keepers who played at that time were in goal. Had his 38 games all been in one season we would have been close to the play offs with the PPG we had with him between the sticks.

Don't boil a kettle on a boat.

In 49 years of watching Town the worst player I have ever seen play in our shirt is Ian Jureff..... only a loan I know but was an unmitigated disaster imo.... NB... I never saw Mark Fish play for us@

The worst Ipswich players of all time…. on 08:38 - Apr 16 by Churchman

I have to say Harbey was outstandingly bad. I’d get that pit of the stomach sinking feeling of despair matched only when one approached the festering sh£thouse behind Churchmans, when his name was announced. He never disappointed. He always had a terrible game, because it was the only game he had.

But my vote goes to Jonathan Douglas. Achingly awful at every aspect of the game. Heading, running, shooting, tackling, passing. I was amazed he bothered to get changed for the game. A shirt over the day clothes would have been just fine.

I would have named Eubanks-Blake or Ellington, but at least they kept KFC and Greggs in business. Or Giles Coke come to that - a pub goer that won a ticket to play for the club if ever there was one, but none of these tootled on for too many games - or waddled on in the case of EB and ‘the duke’.

I always feel a bit like Ebanks-Blake deserves an exemption, as that was very much a small-scale trial to see whether a previously-tremendous player could get back to what he used to be in the wake of a career-destroying injury - he couldn't, and that was quickly clear to all parties, but it wasn't his fault that footballing ability had got away from him.

The likes of Simon Dawkins, however...

Mark fish.
Diallo
Santos
Thetis
Moore. ( let's be honest, whilst here he was rubbish)
Hladky
Douglas
Lee Martin
Priskin

You're the only one to put Mark Fish up on a post. Truly the first name whenever this comes up in conversation with friends and family. Certainly the worst debut ever.

He was enormous! Laying off the pasties might have helped his cause, but I actually did exempt him on the grounds of too few appearances - same as i did Ellington and would have Mark Fish and one or two other head in hands merchants.

I think for there needs to be a minimum appearance number to qualify as worst ever ITFC player. Say 30 which knocks out ‘proper bloke Cokey’ too.

I too saw most of Harbey’s home games and a few away ones. Your assessment is how I remember him. He was dreadful.

I try to forget Pennyfather. Nothing quite like having a player with one leg shorter than the other. I remember him as pretty useless, but not the worst to wander (limp) onto the field.
[Post edited 16 Apr 2022 11:18]

harbey was dire. i remember an away cup game at forrest where we were behind very early and harbey essentially gave up. but pennyfather is the one who for me was at the same level as harbey - pennyfather used to constantly chip the ball up and behind him having no idea who was there.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Graham Harbey…. Absolute donkey

Wasn’t the best but he had a brilliant left foot and there has been a lot worse. Take your pick from any of the LWB full backs playing this season for a start.

Vermund Breke-Skard is the correct answer.

Michael Clegg was shocking as a loanee.

Skard was my first thought and I have seen nothing else on this thread to change my mind.

Shumilokoski was so far short of what was expected too.

Amir Karic, Ulrich Le Pen and Mark Fish could all qualify.

Adrian Paz as well.

The churn of players since George Burley has been shocking, something I think will continue into this summer when after I expect McKenna to try and stay fairly settled. You could pick almost anyone from the last 20 years, at least BFJ saw a mega problem after a few minutes with Mark Fish, Toto got past 3 managers before being shown the door, shame really as he looked really solid but had the skill of a garden fence.
Football is a different game with all the scrutiny now and I am sure there was some pups during Sir Bobby's time, at least he didn't sign anyone from Accrington Stanley though.... who?... exactly.

Can’t believe I’ve forgotten about Keanan Bennetts. I’ve seen some dreadful Ipswich players in both the top two divisions but he was awful in the third tier. Dreadful player.

Edit. And Frank Nouble as well. Appalling player. Nouble, Proudlock and Bennett’s in an attacking three - in their prime they might well get ten between them all season in L1.

Rory Fallon. Every team he played for used to get relegated. When Keane signed him we hit a new low.

Much as Keane nearly got us relegated, he didn't actually do so. Is it also true about him getting relegated elsewhere? Plymouth appear to have been relegated while he was on loan with us and none of his other teams got relegated while he was on their books! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rory_Fallon

Conor Sammon in there alongside Nouble. You could see defenders losing interest in them as games wore on and their total lack of ability with a football became apparent.

Pretty much every player mentioned so far played for us when we were a top end Championship team. Nobody has mentioned any of the players who have laboured this year to take us to what may well be our worst final league position in living memory.
On balance I think the worst player I have seen play for us is Norwood, followed by Hladky Penney and the utterly hapless KVY. Honourable mentions to Colin Quaner and Balint Bajner.

He was bad, at a higher division, but would be no worse in this division than most of if not all of those who have played at LB/LWB in the last 3 seasons.

Luke Hyam. Stole a living for far too long at Portman Road. I couldnt care less about the people that harp on about him being one of our own... if he'd been my next door neighbour I'd have told him he was shìt..

Owen Garvan another. Didnt bring anything to the party in my book. But ever so slightly less worshipped by the blind than Hyam was.

With all the hype surrounding his arrival, surely Sam Parkin is a fair way up any sort of list like this also?

The sheer amount of dog excrement to have graced the portnan road turf, even in more recent history, makes for grim reading.

You're correct of course, give this a go. Up to 2005 it's fairly straightforward. After that there's a lot of average forgettable players.
