Well there were a lot of potential targets for the counter offensive, but I don't think many people had Belgorod (or should that be Bilhorod?) as being a target!
It seems the had been a Ukrainian incursion into the Belgorod Oblast. Some talk of it being official Ukrainian army, some talk of it being the Russian volunteers which seems the dominant viewpoint and some talk (tongue in cheek) of it being Belgorad separatist rebels 2014 style. Either way it looks like Ukraine taking advantage of a lightly defended sector of the front.

Obviously a lot of chatter today and in the coming days will be on the much awaited offensive that may or may not have begun today. However as that information will be very foggy, this evidence is not.

I think most people who would end up ousting him would be pro-war. Any negotiation, in their eyes, would need to have Ukrainian territory seized. Neither Ukraine and nor its backers will likely accept that. |  |

Not a snowballs chance in hell. He is gradually wearing down Ukraine. The cost in lives? He’s not interested. Doesn’t matter.
Putin and his cohorts are vile scum of the lowest order and deserves miserable end, but it won’t happen any more than it did to that animal Stalin.
The kidnap of children just about tops it off. What kind of people do that? People with no regard for human life.
You either fight these people or hope it all goes away or if you are in their way that they’ll go easy on you. There’s no third way. No accommodation or compromise. Creatures like Putin don’t do compromise.

The Nova Kakhovka dam has been blown. Obviously both sides are blaming the other, but it would appear to have severe consequences for everyone. It will cause massive flooding which will make any crossing of the river by Ukraine extremely difficult in military terms, but will also flood 10,000s of homes on both sides of the river. It could also have a knock on effect to the freshwater supply in Crimea and cooling water supply to the Zaporizhzhiya NPP (although it shouldn't need too much ATM as the reactors are off.
