FPR to be cashless next season on 09:15 - Jun 28 by Lord_Lucan
That’s a really extreme view that doesn’t sit well with me.
Authoritarianism at its finest.
The man knows everything about you because of your spending habits, are you happy with that?
Fancy getting busted because you bought some king sized rizzlas?
"Fancy getting busted because you bought some king sized rizzlas?"
Heh. Reminds me of a Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers strip where Phineas buys skins and the shop keeper says he is obliged to notify the police that someone is buying rizla with no tobacco.
.....hookers (or I think they are called sex workers now) ?
Do they take cards?
My window cleaner doesn't take cash, but he's not a sex worker.
And he's scared of ladders.
Ha! Sounds like my window cleaner. And however many times we have no cash when he turns up, he never wants a bank transfer and waits until, well, whenever. N.B. he kind of turns up at random times so it's not us being assholes... though I guess we could have a piggy bank hidden at the back of a cupboard with loads of notes.
Doesn't appear to be a popular decision. My elderly folks routinely forget their pins/cards and rely heavily on cash, it's game over for that generation, we don't even have a bank in my town anymore.
It's the clubs prerogative of course, but I don't really see the point. There are people who for a whole host of reasons prefer to deal in cash, who will be excluded. I particularly sympathise when it's older people impacted. Not the same but I was in Bath a year or so ago 'during Covid' and a very elderly couple sat at a pub garden table near me and asked the waiter for a couple of drinks. He couldn't take their order unless they did it through the app. They could barely hear him let alone understand what he meant by it, they were very old and only wanted a couple of halves of ale bless them. Absolutely ridiculous that exceptions can't be made in certain circumstances. I ended up offering to get them and just added the to my order. My mate later joked that they might do that every day and never pay for a drink!
Personally speaking at PR it makes no odds to me, and I'm sure that's true of 90% of people, but tbh I can't say I've seen a noticable difference in wait times in the North stand bars that are already card only. That feels like it should be the benefit, but I'm yet to see it.
Perhaps the club should offer prepaid cards that can be purchased and topped up with cash, that work at till point. It's a good footfall driver into the club shop and that way everyone can participate in refreshments. They're very common in Germany, and while not ideal for the 'day tripper' as inevitably you have some cash left on it at the end, it does work very well for ST holders or regular visitors.

I assume the downvoters are cash in a brown paper bag types
I remember a Car garage once quoted me 2 prices.
If Cash its £X If on card it is £Y.
When I asked why the answer was "if you pay in cash, I don't have to add VAT"................
Also had it with builders/gardeners etc so I would say there is still those people about.
Its the ones I see in Aldi paying for shopping with their £50 notes haha I do think a lot of cash transactions are undeclared "income". You can't hide it if it paid into a bank account.
I very rarely use cash now. I didn't much before the pandemic but definitely now. So much more hygienic really. However there should be one cash kiosk or something for those who can't/won't/don't want to use card.
I'm guessing this system saves handling cash which means stealing money etc is going to be nil.

Common sense isn't it??.. There's a few fans that will have to adapt. But it was always going to happen at some point.... Will make life a lot easier for the club... Got me thinking. On a decent crowd day. There could be £1million in cash on site, until it can be physically banked... That can't be wise.. Plus, the obvious speed of transaction... I've seen some salty comments on this subject. And I can understand a section of supporters that feel put out.. But we are evolving as a club, so small changes here and there are inevitable... If you are one of those that needs to adapt. Then think of it, as doing your bit for the club.... Probably best to put these things in place, as early as possible. Being as they are inevitable.. Then people can get used to it, quicker..

Off-topic but during the pandemic a poster on here (forget who it was) stated that his mate (who was self employed) could only claim government help on his declared income. Said neighbour had been quite brazen about not declaring some cash income and lost out.

To be fair a few small fast food outlets near me in sunny West Cambs. refuse to take cards. Went to a chip shop recently got told cash only.
This is true. Even during the pandemic, some of these places refused to take cards.
Now I have to say, this does look dodgy when they say this. The card fees are not a lot (and even so, just up your prices 50p or something to cover the costs if need be) so it can only be down to some fiddling!

£1m in cash on site?? You're having a laugh - probably a couple of hundred £k at most, more likely less than £100k when there's a 20k crowd or less.
Yes, I guess some will have to adapt, I never spend much in the stadium as it is, maybe a drink or two if I'm meeting up with someone, or I get there early.
As others have said, I just find it a bit unnecessary as it will be more of a problem for some.
i hate cards but can see the advantage of them. especially on match days ,when for 15 mins at half time they aren't messing around ringing up and giving change. althou in the old days if i lost my wallet i would have lost maybe£30 notes or more but now with no need for a pin of up to £100 i could lose quite alot till i realised my card was lost. at 73 i find this old people aren't good with card a funny one as cards must have been in use for getting for forty years now. so most would have been 50 when they were in everyday use
forensic experts say footers and spruces fingerprints were not found at the scene after the weekends rows

Fare enough.. Perhaps I overdid it with the £1m... I can see the benefits of walking into the ground with £20 in your pocket, rather than, effectively, bringing your entire bank balance with you. Which could be tempting for some to spend a bit more than usual.... Hmm...

Card fees are next to nothing.
It's a lot more expensive to bank cash than it is to take money on the card.

It is however thoroughly modern!

A slight tangent but the co op threatened to shut our account down as they suspected work payments were going in....they were a little bit right. Their business account however they want one per cent of everything going in and another one per cent of everything going out.....so essentially two per cent of everything we earn....fekkin thieves!

I'm with Barclays and Nat West but most things go through Barclay's, in total we have 7 Barclays accounts so I dread to think what the costs are.
We sub our SEO and a few other bits out to India and they constantly keep on about how their advice can save us money. They recently advised us to switch our banking to Tide or Metro (I don't know anything about them) but I daren't risk upsetting Barclays.
Edit; What I was getting at was - have you tried those two?
