Morsy (and other stuff).... 16:25 - Sep 25 with 5138 viewsBloots

...he needs to stop trying to live up to his reputation as a "thug".

Evans isn't much better in this respect.

It's always going to be difficult trying to see out games when both of your central midfielders are constantly sitting on yellow cards.

Morsy in particular appears to lack any sort of intelligence when it comes to this sort of thing.

Chaplin was poor in general today, even without taking into account his pathetic dive that led to their first goal.

Can't blame the ref today, he was relatively poor but we gained as much as they did from his decisions.

Poor substitutions from KM, taking Ladapo off was wrong, he seems to be getting into a rut of just substituting the same players each week (see Leif Davis). If he is going to keep making changes they need to be like for like, not changes that mean 2 or 3 players have to rotate to make them fit.

Whittaker and Mumba were the stand out players today, better than anything we had on the pitch.

Not good all round today.

We need to stuff Portsmouth now.

Yes, was disappointed in Evans in particular yesterday but Bloots's main point is definitely correct - far too many stupid fouls (and I thought the Harness one was a red in real time too).

My main criticism of the ref would be letting a couple of fairly blatant fouls from them off without a booking.

The lack of control at 1-1 was very reminiscent of the last 15 at Hillsborough, as good as Plymouth were, and Wendesday in that period, we've been much, much better at controlling games under McKenna and needed to do that again.

As has been said higher up, Aluko is certainly another player who would help us hold the ball further up the pitch for longer, keeping care of the ball which Ladapo in fairness does as well, more physically

Ahadme who hasn't started brilliantly, should be offering this threat through hold up play and making a nuisance of himself but we haven't seen that yet

We've said for years we need more bite and aggression in the middle and that's what he offers. If he didn't people would say we are a soft touch

Not being soft doesn't mean unnecessary and nasty fouls. There are two problems with the type of tackles we made yesterday. First, they wind up and bring to life the opposition crowd and so can affect the momentum in the game. Second, given that we complain about sh!thousery, we are in danger of getting a reputation as a dirty team, which to my mind is not the Ipswich way.

Evans and Morsy are the reason we have made such a good start to the season. Take that edge away from their game and we lose a lot. This is our fourth season in the third division but the first time we’ve had a team with the mentality and physicality to compete.

I agree far too many years we have been a soft touch so going backwards is not going to help , blimey we are second having lost just one game !

I get what you mean re yesterday. Morsy should have been sent off so maybe he has to reign it in a bit, but that's the type of player he is and wouldn't want him to change.

I think yesterday was an unusual day for our players fouling, we are not usually like that but were obviously up for the game.

Both yellows were needless, both were really poor and dirty tackles and both hamstrung us going forwards.

In games where you need every edge you can get, you can't take one so easily - Edmundson needed to chop someone on break, but then so did Evans but he couldn't because he'd just put a bad tackle in for his own ego.

In games where we don't control the ball, when the gameplan is clearly for Walton to go long and pick up seconds then Evans just isn't mobile enough to get around in those games and ends up dragged around too easily.

I like hard players, but I get so frustrated with bad needless challenges that are both dangerous and unsporting, and do nothing to help us as a team

Ahadme was off it yesterday but that was probably due to the monumental smack in the face he got from the ball almost immediately after coming on. He went down like a sack of spuds and I can't believe he was allowed to play on with the way he hit the ground.

Yet, in the other breath, one of our biggest achilles heels the past few years has been our powder puff midfield getting overrun and out battled, and our fanbase desperate for some enforcers.

Saturday was a minority rather than majority.

I thought there was not much Morsy could do in that situation when someone goes to ground just in front of you and gets to the ball marginally before you. He couldn't really avoid contact. There didn't look to be any intent.

It is similar in reverse to when Nsaila went to ground and cleared the ball berore Forestari came steaming in , initiated contact and got Nsaila sent off

Just a slightly different vieww.

Morsy's "tackle" was a red card, no question

Evans's booking was simply ridiculous. And a free-kick to Plymouth to boot!? Not for me. Our free kick there.

And yes you can blame the ref. Not for us losing the game, that was largely due to our headless chicken 15 minutes after they equalised, but no booking for a Plymouth player? Really? When Mumba tried to break Donacien's ankle? A tackle the ref was looking straight at?

The free kick was given before they even tackled. Morsy had pushed him in the back in the lead up. The Plymouth player was essentially given a free whack of Evans but Evans got there first.

Morsy’s an odd one isn’t he. He obviously not daft, as he’s thinking miles ahead of anyone else when he’s on the ball. But his decisions about when to lunge in are mind blowingly stupid. They seems to unravel in slow motion and you can see him about to do something stupid a mile off. 9 out of 10 refs give a red card today. He was lucky because this ref was happy to see a physical game (which in the main worked really well and made for a better game imo).

Aye, end of the day it was two decent teams slugging it out in generally good spirits. Really entertaining game that had a bit of everything and not too gutted about the result for once, just one of those days the oppo have two cracking strikes and we don't have our shooting boots on.

BUT our fackin Sky hoodoo continues...

Evans didn't get booked for that though, he got booked in second half for a poor tackle

Unless you have played football at a high level, you might not realise how fast the professional game is & how, especially if you are a ball winner, split second that decision to go for a tackle or not actually is.

I think there is a bit more to it than that, given that our other players don't tend to commit as many (often niggly) fouls as him. Maybe it's partly due to his small stature, or lack of pace, but I do sense a bit of red mist descending on him at times. Still, he's unlikely ever to change, and it looks like McKenna is content and hasn't tried to drill it out of him.
