Portsmouth been on poor form 17:48 - Mar 13 with 3547 viewsNthsuffolkblue

Just noticed they are playing that funny cup competition final today.

I wonder if they have been a bit distracted and whether losing it will allow them to regain focus or simply knock their confidence even more.

That cup has been an utter waste of time (other than wasting a Saturday for Pompey and putting a bit more pressure on Jackett at a bad time!) - that was last years final wasn’t it?

Just lost on pens and have to go to Peterborough midweek. Hopefully that leaves them a bit knackered next Saturday.

Extra time and then lost on penalties. Love it.

You just know what is going to happen next weekend when the title subject is phrased in this manner.

Yeah just watching it, I think this will hurt them, momentum they had has really slipped away of late, all is not well down there and think we're playing them at a good time, if that's possible in this league ha!

Are they still in this year's competition as well or has that already been done?

This years final is tomorrow so Salford will be "champions" for one day.

Isn't this season's final tomorrow? I could be wrong here.

It is, Sunderland vs. Tranmere Rovers

Hadn't noticed we were against them that soon, to be honest.

That’s handy, Sunderland can put all their energy into that - hopefully extra time and penalties.

That would have been fun for either of today's finalists to have played at Wembley 2 days running.

Would they have still got a fine if they had played too much of a weakened team?

Is a waste of time any season, but absolutely staggering that with all the fixture congestion and likely disruption that this competition (which didn't have a sponsor to appease at the start) was allowed to clog things up further this seasson.

I hate that attitude. Lots of good clubs have won that competition and used it to push on to bigger things. That's not the reason Pompey are having a lull.

It's not a competition I have followed at all (I thought Portsmouth had won it once).

Please do tell me these "lots of clubs" who have used it to push on to bigger things.

EDIT: And this is not meant as a dig at proper cup competitions like the FA Cup. I am looking forward to a manager taking that one seriously.

You honestly think, with the current pandemic, no chance for fans at the final that there was a place for it?
