I saw him at the Millenium Stadium whenever he was last over here. He was immense. A massive set, about 3.5hrs long no breaks and just flat out. The energy that guy's got is off the charts.

There appears to be know correlation between the rhythm of the song and the crazy dance moves. It's almost as if their speed addled brains have told um to move 2 and half times the speed of the tune then jump an spin in the air for no apparent reason while ignoring the actual rhythm. Never trust a speed addled brain I say

They aren't dancing to Do I love You (The rarest record in the world btw). That's been dubbed on to old footage from the Wigan Casino.

I know; I was sorta taking the pee about the speed at which they move and the possibility of speed in their bloodstream. Probably like yerself I'm old enough to have witnessed northern soul nights in the late 80,s before rave saved us all. And allowed us to move at a similar speed/tempo to the music again

Were you around at that time, witnessed what happened, watched the dancing ?
I remember a few northern soul nights in the late 80,s. Had a few friends who were into it. I was more into the stimulants and dancing all night then the music I have to confess

And, lest we forget, the man is 73. 73. That's older than my dad.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Sure that was there peak but still many a soul all nighter all over east anglia up til the mid-late 80,s. There was then a small crossover with Rave In 87-89. (Also the scooter scene) Many a northern soul fan attending raves and vice versa. Think that all night dancing was probably the link... You up the Wigan casino much yerself then Harry?

Northern Soul broke nationally in the early/mid 70’s but had been going strong well before that. It’s a lot more complex than this but, essentially, while Soul clubs in the South had a more eclectic playlist, Northern Soul DJ’s sought rarities that fitted the preferred style, to make their own sets unique. Added to that the pool of records wasn’t growing as Soul had moved away from that particular style (which most would probably call 60’s Motown) so the rarities thing was a defining feature of specific clubs. For example, you’d hear very different music at The Highland Rooms in Blackpool, than you'd hear back down the motorway at Wigan. TWTD not only for Football.

Not as old as me, but I don’t think I could do a 3 hour plus set at full tilt. Saw him at The Ricoh about 6 years ago. One of the best gigs I have seen. His version of Do I Love You is superb.
