Interesting or slightly weird books 14:01 - Dec 14 with 2652 viewsBlue_Blob

As its getting close to Christmas I'm looking something for my step dad. He loves reading but he really enjoys the more zany style of books. Any one on here can recommend an out there style of book?

Cheers in advance

The Old Testament.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

It's quite dark, but both off-beat and entertaining:

When you say 'zany', what do mean - comedy, fantasy, mad sci-fi?

Comedy writing, pretty anything by Spike Milligan - pick of the bunch would be if you can get a collected edition of his war diaries.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

When i say zany i meant just a story that is generally bonkers. Doesn't have to be any particular genre. Just out there.

This, too is quite dark in places but it's an astonishing trip of a read.

The Old Testament.

Interestingly one of the best books I've read is a lighthearted twist on the Old Testament. It's called: "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal"

In fact the author Christopher Moore has written some brilliantly funny and quirky stories, my other favourites are "Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove" and "The Island of the Sequined Love Nun" all of which were somewhat peculiar but incredibly endearing and very entertaining.

You'll certainly get that with Milligan, even when it's a 'straight' story like his war diaries.

Pretty much anything by John Irving, but particularly 'The Hotel New Hampshire', 'A Prayer for Owen Meany' and 'A Son of the Circus'.
