What about if you are already renting? In the example given she can afford £130k, so has a deposit of £13k, plus money put aside for fees.....that’s still a decent chunk to save even if she has had some help from parents and is renting etc |
It’s just going to take a little longer to save for the deposit, there’s no reason people can’t rent and save at the same time.

If someone had put away an average of £100 a month over that 15 years then they’d have a rather tasty looking 18k deposit, obviously that’s quite a task for a single person that’s renting.
If someone wants to halve that figure It’s probably a good idea they go in with a friend, assuming they don’t have a partner they’re going steady with.
