I know the main lyric on Killing in the Name is a bit 6th form, but that album was huge to those of us who were 16/17 at the time of release, and it still stands up pretty well IMO. I was lucky enough to see them at their peak at Reading 96 - not sure I've ever been in a bouncier crowd since!
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.
Absolute all timer album and de la Rocha is a legend.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
bought it in 1992 but only played it a few times. bit too shouty really. change giver and up to our hips came out so it got binned along with siamese dream.

No, you get in the bin!
Siamese Dream is one of my all time favourite albums - perfect from start to finish. All downhill from there for Smashing Pumpkins mind you.

yikes I remember listening to it loudly back then, of course killing in the name is the track you always go to for LOLs but there were some good other tunes on that album as well
I always liked this video where they showed every film ending is vastly improved by using the intro to Wake up like they did in the Matrix :)

I did a similar thing, never really got into the Grunge stuff, always been a old-school C86 style Indie Kid. I liked Pixies/Husker Du/Sugar. The only 2 albums I really got into from that scene were Siamese Dream and Superunknown. It was an interesting scene early 90s Indie before Britpop came along and ruined everything.
So well recorded. It's a great sounding album. I've not really been angry enough of late to give it a listen. I might dig it out again. Other than the end of Killing in the name of, I always though Bullet in the head was my favourite track.
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Amazing album. I saw them on The Word playing Killing in the Name and as a 17 tear old it was right in my sweet spot.
My favourite was always Bullet In The Head - with the last two minute build up the perfect epitome of why that album was so great - you can literally feel the adrenaline building in your body - something that still gives me goosebumps today.
I only found out 4-5 years ago that Maynard James Keenan was the guest vocalist on Know Your Enemy - very odd given Tool were probably the band I listened to most in 00s (Lateralus still being in my Top 5 albums of all time).
I also completely agree with several comments in this thread: - Melancholy was a great album hiding in a double album of filler - Britpop ruined everything (although by the time it came around I'd already deviated off the indie/grunge path and headed down an 80s alternative/goth road) - RATM is one of the best debut albums of all time, and whilst they have had other good albums I don't think they've ever topped it
...and the fact RATM is 30 years old makes me feel very very old

Up vote for Brit Pop ruined everything
Isn't it interesting how generational shifts give different perspectives ? I was in my late thirties by the time Britpop arrived and I liked it a lot, Grunge almost passed me by (mainly as a result of being a Dad and working too hard, ironically one of the kids later played bass in a mid 2000s Grunge band) but I 'got' Nirvana although I didn't see them as absolutely essential to music (but that is also true of Oasis.) Early Britpop had definite crossover elements with Grunge, especially Suede, but wittier lyrics - and I like some wit in lyrics, more so than anger. Later on the development of Radiohead and Blur showed just what an important window Britpop had been for popular music that was in great danger of becoming moribund.
[edit] Also Gomez - a band who appeared to be Britpop but were actually reinvigorating the Blues, to such an extent that John Lee Hooker said he could find no fault with their debut album.
