London Tier 3 announcement impacting attendance tomorrow? 14:02 - Dec 14 with 5886 viewsSW_LondonBlue

Patiently waiting to hear about the Tier 3 announcement later. Some talk that the move could be with immediate effect.

Anyone else (supposedly) travelling up for the game tomorrow from London?

Think that's a bit harsh. Not to speak for Spruce but it's pretty obvious he's not demanding an explanation from anybody, but pointing out that, regardless of what is technically allowed, people might need to weigh up all the risks/benefits of things before going ahead with something, particularly if they're from an area that is deemed to be in enough of a state to go into tougher restrictions in literally 2 days.

Saying he's guilt tripping people and being unhelpful is a bit of a low blow to be honest.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

My point is really simple.

IF (and it is a fair argument to make) you think people from high risk areas should not travel to low risk areas, then direct your anger at those who make the rules, not those who follow them.

I'll bow out too, as I don't think it is an argument that will end well.

Enjoy your night.
[Post edited 14 Dec 2020 16:53]

I don't think that's fair though.

The rules are clear and from midnight they aren't allowed to travel. Nothing will change between 7pm and midnight. It's a fixed point a little bit in the future to give people time to sort things out.

How should we direct anger at those making the rules in this case? Perhaps it should have been midnight tonight?

Given that the match finishes just before the time where it's been deemed not safe to travel I think it's fine to point out the risks involved here.

One final point, I apologise because I know I said that I would leave it. I don't know why you're so quick to throw away the concept of people taking personal responsibility and taking the time to consider their choices. I'm just saying would it be so bad for people to show a little restraint and not be so eager to defer the ability to judge, think and act onto the authorities?

Just because the government says something is legal, doesn't mean it is the correct thing to do.

I'll leave it there.

Thanks.

To be super clear, that's precisely what I am am saying. I'm not saying that people shouldn't go. I don't live in Ipswich, I won't be impacted directly by it. If you want to go, then go - but you don't live and operate in a bubble.

My point is a broader one about people taking personal responsibility for considering their own actions and the way they might impact others. I'm just saying, have a think on it.

Don't worry about it Spruce - am just fed up with everyone thinking they can tell other people how to conduct themselves. Hence why I over reacted to your post.

Here's a helpful comparison from something that also gets people fairly emotive, which is tax avoidance (and to be clear, I'm not talking about things like ISAs, the stuff that is obviously part of the system).

Is tax avoidance illegal? No.

Is it the correct thing to do? Depends who you ask.

I agree with both yourself and Stokie that asking oneself "is this a good idea?", even if it's allowed by the rules, is probably sensible. I'd like to think people who err on the side of caution.

I think everyone is sick of everything lately! I hold my hands up to often coming at UK issues through a US lens. I shouldn't judge UK people so harshly on my experiences here and by what friends and family tell me back home.

We'll probably lose tomorrow night anyway!

Has been announced for Wednesday so you are fully legal to travel tomorrow if you choose to. After Wednesday I presume anyone in tier 3 will not be eligible for tickets if the club follow what other clubs have done.

Club has already been doing it.

I don't want to inflame this, you're both good guys and both seem willing to let it rest

But, can't help myself

I think you're right, it's the rule makers who should be to blame and who should be setting clear guidelines for people to follow, and it would be lovely if that's what they were doing.

However, we seem to be going through a global pandemic while being led by a buch of incompetent, selfish morons who don't seem remotely capable of doing that.

This being the case, and seeing as we're several months down the line, most of us reasonably well informed about Covid now then I do think there's space for some personal responsibility regardless of what the rules say. I think deep down we all know by now what is sensible and what isn't, however, I wouldn't blame anybody enjoying the chance to go to football.

This is why I half joking said that tickets should only be available to those in IP1-IP4 (or at the very most those with a Suffolk address) for the time being. Got some pelters for that, but attending football doesn't exist in a bubble.

Ah so a CB7 postcode where the case numbers per 100k is much lower than an IP1-4 postcode is a handicap to me because of?

Maybe the good people of CB7 don't appreciate you heading somewhere with higher rates and taking a good old dose of the 'rona back with you. Like I said, it would be lovely if people could think of others and not just themselves.
