Old man used to record his programs for me. Was he a Norwich boy?

Oh my, I didn't know that.
Very sad news, I loved all his fishing programmes.
Met him a few times at the Go Fishing Show at the NEC.
Did he move away a few years ago to live by a fishing lake in Thailand?
RIP John.

I know zip about angling, but knew of him when I started some archaeological research back in the day that I thought might be prehistoric fishing-related material. So I posted him a bunch of photocopies and scrawled thoughts and questions, and he was good enough to reply super quickly - though he admitted the material was not his area of expertise, he did give me some useful leads. Nice bloke given how busy he must have been.

Yeah, he opened a place in Thailand. Not sure what happened to him after that.

I never met the bloke but he seemed a really nice guy.

Very sad to see this, that man certainly had a passion for fishing, lived a good life...

Can hear him saying "careful Wilson" now...

RIP.

Certainly was, and a true gent. Met him for the time when I was a young teenager, went in his tackle shop and was surprised how much time he took in telling me tips on how to fish. Even signed one of his VHS tapes I’d bought. RIP John

He was planning on returning to the UK this year I believe. He did an interview with the Angling Times a month or two back.

Nooooooooooooo. Great ambassador for angling, fabulous TV shows highlighting a wide range of fishing disciplines. Learned a lot from watching them.
He had only recently sold up his Thailand lakes to move back to Norfolk to be near family i believe.
Seemed very well liked within the angling fraternity.
RIP John Wilson.

Gutted. Got me into fishing 30 odd years ago, him and Bob Nudd.

Slowly my childhood is being eroded.

“Hu, hu, ho, what a super fish!”.

Shocked by this. An absolute hero of my younger angling self. Although I suppose that was a long time ago now
