The most interesting aspect of Lee Grant’s appointment…. 14:48 - May 28 with 1426 views | 66notout | …is that the former goalkeeper’s main focus will be on improving the strikers. Gamekeeper turned poacher. [Post edited 28 May 2022 14:48]

Most strikers know how to hit a ball and any outfield player can help them get better with repetitive training however having a gks view could work really well with strikers having an understanding of a keepers mind when strikers are in on goal, what personal experiences Ward has of trying to save certain shots at certain angles. What are the sweet spots that keepers struggle to get to in certain situations.

One issue is this is his first coaching gig, and many were critical of Cook surrounding himself with first timers. One thing with Lee Grant is that he will have been involved in attacking training sessions and drills for many years at Man U, with high calibre coaches and very high calibre attacking players

Good to see the obvious issue with the strikers getting a fix. Seems an intelligent, hard working coach. I like the fact he has been in and around similar sized clubs as ours so will understand the player dynamic, yet has also had experience at a higher level. Yes it's his first gig, but we have a much more balanced coaching set up with Pert around. Grant will be able to run ideas by him, which I suspect wasn't always the case for the previous young coaches and Cook.

Think there is a difference tho between someone who's obtained his A level coaching certificate compared to Roberts who hadn't even taken the standard course that even non league coaches have. Yes it's just a bit of paper. But the A level involves a lot of yours of physical coaching activity to even have a chance at obtaining it.

Has any ITFC striker coach got more out of a player than Franny Jeffers (and Gary Roberts?) did with Macauley Bonne? His stats are night and day with and without Jeffers (and GR?). Or was there more to it than that?

Various reasons imo 1.. Burns set him up a fair few. Compared to then playing balls towards the back of the box rather than drilling them across the face of goal. 2. His personal situation imo would have played very heavily on his mind. 3. We seemed to stop him being offside as much, but then he was getting beaten to the ball to often 4. He was in dreamland to begin with and in that place where strikers just score from anything. See Murphy as Badger mentions.

The quote I read talked about working with individuals, and then said "as well as working closely with the forwards in the squad". As others have said, a specialist GK with his coaching badges will doubtless have much to teach forwards, but I can't see that Grant is going to be mainly a forwards coach.
