Who is your preferred next Tory leader (thus PM), and why? 16:30 - Jul 9 with 9025 viewsunbelievablue

Regardless of your political persuasion. Please show your working.

e.g. I am considering who might be the least threat to a Labour challenge at the next election, as well as "the lesser of all evils" scenario until then, but am as of yet undecided. Whereas you, a staunch Tory, might have a favourite for the opposite reason.

Go.

Rory Stewart - as he would be the only one to spend the long, long time the Conservatives are due in opposition putting that party right and making it a credible opposition.

I would be happy to see Mrs May back. She has, at least, some integrity, is less dislikeable than most of the current crop of tories and was royally shafted by Johnson and his acolytes; would be a sort of poetic resetting of the haute politique.

Or John Major, just to see the apoplectic reaction of the dullard racist gammony noveau tories in the red wall; the ones who are so determined to vote against their own interests.

Hunt only seems 'competent enough' compared that current shower. He remains the second worst ever health secretary of my lifetime.

It is a sign of how low the tories have fallen that Hunt seems sensible and competent now.

Your claim to have 'contacts' at WSH would look a lot more credible if you hadn't just googled and copy-pasted a bit of PR guff, as well.

Apologies, I did not realise he was no longer a Member of Parliament, so I guess that rules him out. Also, not sure I would trust him with the nuclear codes:

Didn't like to say anything mate, but yes it's been 3 years.

He had the principles to resign when this fraud was elected I believe.

Jacob Rees-Mogg. An outstanding candidate. He has a real grasp of the issues. Fine public speaker with the common touch and real empathy with the people. The endearing old stick insect even leaves touching little notes on desks for people. What a sense of humour.

I’m sure he’d have had a full grasp of the Brexit Select Committee I attended, if he’d bothered to read the briefing - which he clearly hadn’t.

Yep, he’s the man for me. Not least because it would see the end of this disgraceful shower for decades. If not him, haystack Nadine because the outcome would be the same.

I think you have sold it to me. Of course he would lose his seat in the next election but by that time Boris will have elevated him with a peerage. Lord Voldermogg for me!

That article states that he was "expelled for rebelling over Brexit". Clearly would have made a far better leader and maybe a pathway is there in the future.

Whilst you're here though how have you decided I've said you're a previous poster in my post just then?
