Music posters and canvases 15:22 - Dec 11 with 1651 viewsMalcolmMeatballHead

Hello all, can anybody recommend a website where I can buy this sort of thing? I just can't find what I'm looking for on a basic Google search. My mum and dad want me to suggest a present for them to buy me for Christmas (even though I don't want anything but they insist bless 'em) and I was thinking it would be nice to have a poster or canvas on the wall of my favourite band.

Cheers in advance

Who are you favourite band?

My choice of music is like my choice of women- I'm not fussy and enjoy all sorts lol. Only joking

Seriously though, i have a lot of bands I like. 2 of my favourites are The Libertines and Joy Division.

The poster/ canvas I really want on my wall is either the cover of the album Closer by Joy Division or the cover of The Libertines' self named second album, the one with Pete and Carl sitting together and Pete is showing off his tattoo on his arm. I just think they are 2 pretty iconic album covers and I think they would look cool on my wall

I remember getting stuff like this from shops like virgin and HMV when I was a boy. I used to buy big posters that were rolled up in a tube of my favourite bands and films.

Sorry to go on. Hope I made sense

Edit: thanks Jimmy Juan for the suggestion, appreciate your help

You're welcome Malcolm. Have a look at Etsy, you would be surprised at the range of things you can find. Just search for the libertines or joy division.

Or a canvas from
https://www.redbubble.com/i/poster/The-Libertines-Music-by-clarenzoman/84251756.
Unfortunately stuff for Closer may be more difficult to find, although the photographer that took those iconic images of Ian Curtis is called Kevin Cummins so worth searching to see if you can find any prints.

Thanks for the info, very interesting!

I think the album cover of Closer is quite morbid in a way. I think I read somewhere that the cover had been decided and shortly after Ian Curtis hung himself. The album was in production already so it was too late to stop it but the rest of the band felt bad as it showed a picture of a tomb but it was too late to stop it.

Rip Ian Curtis. He was so young, he was only 23 and ended it all the night before him and his band were due to go to America for a tour. He had a wife and baby too. I hate stories like that, it hurts so much to hear of people who feel like they are alone and suffering. Ian killed himself 2 years before I was even born but he really is a hero of mine. He really did have it all.

Canvas art rocks website may be worth a look but as they dispatch from the US, you may be pushing it for an Xmas delivery.

Etsy is a good shout and ebay is worth a look as well.

Thanks mate. Delivery before Christmas isn't a problem. If I can get what I want then I will happily wait, I don't have to have it on christmas morning.

I appreciate your kind advice, cheers

For the Libertines cover, they aren't showing off their tattoos, they are showing their arms don't have track marks

Ah right, cheers I didn't know that. I just assumed the pose was Pete and Carl showing off the matching Libertines tattoos they both had done

Yes I agree. It definitely fits the sound and theme of the album. It wouldn't surprise you if Curtis had planned it out as a final middle finger to his mates, which is oddly sweet in a way. I think I once read that all he wanted was to be Bowie or Iggy Pop, but when he got there, it was cruelly taken away from him by his epilepsy, depression and the medication. Very sad.

It's such a sad story. His Epilepsy was such a curse for the poor lad. I wish there was more help for people like that back in the early 80s. I read an article by Bernard Sumner and what happened proper messed him up. Its such a tragic story, it really is

You mention Iggy Pop, by all accounts his album The Idiot was on Ian's turntable when he was found and most probably the last music he ever heard.

And Warner Herzog's Stroszek on the TV.

Have you seen 'Control', the Anton Corbijn flick?

I have, great film. That kitchen scene at the end is so haunting though.
