Mobile phone question... 08:49 - Jan 28 with 1127 views | BanksterDebtSlave | ...the battery drains overnight without use. Switched mobile roaming off in case it is searching for our non existent signal and it still drains. In aeroplane mode it does not drain. Does this mean it is just a duff battery? If you have a plethora of messaging apps, each one of those is constantly polling to see if you have new messages. There will also be apps out there that can give an assessment of your battery life; but if it doesn't drain in airplane mode, it means apps are sucking the life out of your phone. You should be able to see in Settings > Battery which those apps are.

It's a Samsung galaxy S7 (2016). Does that count as really old for a battery? Knew I should have kept my Nokia brick (3310 ?)

I actually did that a couple of months ago so almost all apps are phone installed ones. Will check the other stuff, thanks. But it sounds like it isn't the battery from what you are saying?

Yes, but also depends on how many charging cycles it's been through. That's the key impact on battery life

If it's a Samsung, it's going to come with quite a few apps installed that you may not need. FB (as an app) is a known power hog, for example. If the battery was shagged, it won't hold a charge and will drain even if the phone is switched off. If the phone is in "flight mode" that's basically restricting it from doing much, so if it's not draining in that mode, it's not the battery, it's what is happening on the phone to drain the battery, if that makes sense. It's probably also running an old version of Android. You can get newer versions of Android that aren't "stock" (i.e. don't come from Samsung) and probably worth Googling "Android 12" + model of phone to see how you can do that. "Flashing" it (getting rid of Samsung bloatware / getting the latest version of Android) probably the best solution IMHO. Also try not to charge it beyond 80% unless you have to / leave it plugged in charging all day, that will kill the battery. Hope this helps !

Is that switched off for individual apps or can you do it for all of them somewhere. Looks like a factory installed one called upday has used 39%. Haven't a clue what it is but I can only replace it with a'factory version' when I try to disable it.

Upday is the Samsung news app when you scroll left off the home screen iirc. Disable it and clear the cache and data and see if that helps.

Does it give you the option to "Force Close" upday? An app I've also seen, but doesn't appear to be active. I also have an S7, but tend to charge it overnight. The fact it doesn't drain in airplane mode suggests it's something communicating with the outside world while you're asleep and, if your reception is poor, that would certainly be an issue. Location can be turned off in Settings, under Connections. Or it can be switched from high to low accuracy.

Mobile phone question... on 10:03 - Jan 28 with 755 views | abracaDOBRA_ | If its an iPhone you can go into settings, go to battery and look at battery %. Anything below 70% means the battery probably needs replacing
Mobile phone question... on 10:12 - Jan 28 with 735 views | strikalite | 2016, if that's the original battery then that's done pretty well for an Android phone, think that's a sealed battery but a phone shop will replace it for about £25, I'd just do that.
