The 'special military operation' continues to reach new lows. on 16:25 - Sep 18 by DJR | Before the summer my son did an essay at university on the use by both sides of drones in the war. It looks like the technology and effectiveness have moved on from the contemporary articles on the issue that he used at the time to write the essay. |

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/8/30/russia-jails-journalist-for-spreading-f is also linked on that article. It is good that there are those who stand up for the truth despite what it costs them. I wonder how much the Russian population actually accept the official narrative and how much they have an idea of what is really happening. There must always be the potential for the balance to swing to the point that the state loses control which, of course, is why they work so hard to retain it.

Thank you for encouraging me to share my thoughts. My main concern is for my close family this coming winter who live in Eastern Europe. I think things will be OK in the small city they live in, or at least a lot better than some unfortunates are going to be. I'm greatly saddened by what is happening to the people of Ukraine, on both sides. I can't imagine how it feels to have your sons sent for slaughter in a war which should never have been necessary. It is hard to condone Russia's invasion of Ukraine and I wouldn't attempt to do so. But if I am to pick just one little thing I feel the prevailing narrative is demonstrably wrong about, just a single adjective which I believe is unfailingly misapplied and that is 'unprovoked', I don't believe the invasion was unprovoked and neither do the OECD, or even the Pope for that matter.

Of course it was unprovoked. Unless you are suggesting that Ukraine was somehow threatening Russia. It is about Imperialism, territory, and a warped view of history.

Were the recent Russian invasions of Georgia, Chechnya, Syria, and Crimea provoked too? Interested to see what you think Ukriane’s provocations were. Not sure quoting the pope is any kind of gotcha given the Vatican seemed to contain some enthusiastic nazis in Ww2. This is the latest in a series of Russian expansionism, nothing more, nothing less. They were ‘just freeing the Sudetenland ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine or something’. [Post edited 20 Oct 2024 19:15]

Surely, if it were a bot account it wouldn't have posted all those threads about Town matches would it? Oh, I see what you mean! Perhaps the poster can give a link to the OECD stating that Russia is not the aggressor. "The OECD Council condemns the large scale aggression by Russia against Ukraine in the strongest possible terms as a clear violation of international law and a serious threat to the rules-based international order. We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people. The OECD Council is reconsidering all cooperation with Russia as a matter of urgency and is assessing the economic and social repercussions." https://usoecd.usmission.gov/statement-of-oecd-council-on-the-russian-aggression

It is hard to condone Russia's invasion of Ukraine and I wouldn't attempt to do so. Yet you have attempted to do so. Saying you wouldn't doesn't change the fact that you have. I believe is unfailingly misapplied and that is 'unprovoked' Russia invaded Crimea and The West did nothing. Russia invaded the Donbas and The West did nothing. Russia invaded the whole of Ukraine and now The West is not doing enough to win the war for Ukraine's independence. It is not provocation that has got us here, it is a failed strategy of appeasement, centred around a failed ideology that Russian integration into the Western economy would prevent war. demonstrably wrong Funny you use the word demonstrably when you don't even have the courage to say what the demonstrable provocation was. I suspect is was something along the lines of the sovereign nation of Ukraine had the audacity to vote for a government that they wanted. Can't have a functioning democracy on Russia's doorstep, way too provocative. neither do the OECD This has already been debunked (I believe it came up in this very thread). The OECD consistently call the war "Russia's war of aggression"... Eg, https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/assessing-the-impact-of-russia-s-war-agains

Your way out on your numbers but let’s think this through, Nobody gets in or out of NK without the states say so, We now have 10/12k NK troops being exposed to Russian/ western media and devices does anyone actually think that Kim will allow ANY of these soldiers back into NK after being ‘corrupted’ and seeing life outside of the hermit kingdom? These troops are dead either way by fighting or even executions to stop them returning! This is a political stunt to rattle the west and give Trump oxygen to spin to the Americans how this would not have happened if he was in charge because he is mates with Kim and Pootin. I don’t suppose we will see any more from NK as even Kim won’t be able to write off 100k or more.
